It still begs to question, what is Matthew trying to tell us about Mary? Herod would not have usurped Roman authority by trying to have Jesus slain in a mass slaughter. The flight to Egypt had to have been for fear of Mary being ostracized for adultery.

Fantastic post. I'm at that ripe age where people are starting to wonder when I'm going to marry my boyfriend and have a baby... well, I'm not. And it horrifies and shocks people when I tell them this, but I don't intend to have kids. I don't LIKE kids-- and yes, it is possible for women to not like children, despite popular belief. Great post.

I think that as our country has been founded on Christian principles since before Federation, it would be a retrograde step to throw out christian values and perspectives in the classroom. We have already seen the beginnings of disintegration of those values and the resultant changes brought about by those who feel that we are not responsible to anyone other than ourselves. Why do we need to promote Hinduism, Buddist, and Muslim faiths, which at the moment are largely held by Asian cultures? Atheism would need to be taught also. Atheism as such provides only the values of the individual. Most CRE teachers explain that their faith offers hope, and provides a purpose for living a life which care and compassion for others is emphasised. The way our country is heading, the emphasis is more upon looking after ME, and this is reflected by the increase of lawlessness, suicides, and substance abuse.

I know many childless women who I certainly wouldn't consider "bitter failures". Some, like you, are aunts to many children, and those who aren't are still amazing women whom I certainly wouldn't every consider failures, and I'm sure they don't either. Keep up the writing, I love to read your blogs! Liz
