Auntie Avril gets all misty-eyed

Damian ready for school

Definitely not ready for this one. My nephew, who I’m sure was a baby only moments ago. started school yesterday. My sister said she coped okay, which I think just confirms that she’s tougher than I am.

  1. You’d be less misty-eyed if he lived with you.

  2. Don’t moments like that remind us to try to make the most of each day…even if we don’t succeed? Time is so fleeting.

  3. Olivia, I think you underestimate my ability to get misty-eyed. Admittedly, one of the joys of auntie-hood is the ‘catch and release’ programme – play with the child, give the child back to parents. But then, this is me, the woman who needed to privately rehearse a wedding service a dozen times because I kept tearing up at the part where I declared them husband and wife. I think I’d be just as pathetically teary if I lived with Damian. (Sammy, of course, unlike Murray and I, doesn’t tear up – she’s tough!)
